Indian Creek football blanked by Northview

Headed into its matchup with Class 4A No. 10 Northview on Friday, Indian Creek knew had to play its best game of the year to pull off the upset. The Knights, though, came ready to play, putting up 41 first-half points on the way to a 44-0 victory.

It has been a rough year for the Braves (2-7, 1-3 WIC), who have had to overcome a struggling young offense and a late-season coaching change.

Despite all that, coach Dan Rector likes his team’s chances to win its Class 3A sectional opener at Indianapolis Washington next week.

“We have to minimize our mistakes on the offensive side of the ball,” Rector said. “Win first downs, so that we are in good situitions on second and third down. Defensively, we’ve got to win first downs, so we get the second and third and longs.”

In the first quarter Indian Creek could not get anything going on offense. Meanwhile, it also could not stop North View, allowing 20 points in the first period. The second quarter was much of the same, as the Knights added on three more touchdowns, capped by a 72-yard punt return touchdown by Easton Morgan.

Indian Creek remained unable to get anything going offensively after halftime, finishing the night with just 38 total yards (17 rushing, 21 passing).

That will need to change next week if the Braves are going to extend their season.

“The biggest thing we need to work on is our physicality,” Rector said. “They were the more physical team, and if you’re going to win in the tournament you’ve got to win those physical matchups.”
