Police: Franklin bar fight led to stabbing

Police arrested a Franklin man after they say he stabbed a man outside a local bar.

Seth W. Hodson, 27, was arrested on charges of battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, both felonies. The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.

The stabbing occurred during a fight between Hodson and the victim about 3 a.m. Saturday morning outside a downtown Franklin bar, according to a Franklin Police Department report.

Security camera footage shows Hodson and the victim nose to nose in an argument outside the bar. During the argument, Hodson lights a cigar in the victim’s face and the victim pulls it out of Hodson’s mouth and drops it on the ground. Hodson then shoved the victim several times and the victim shoved Hodson to the ground, according to the report.

Someone broke up the fight and the two separated but both remained on the premises, the report says.

A short time later, Hodson walked past the victim in the parking lot and attacked him again. Hodson grabbed the victim by the left side of his head and stabbed him in his ear, according to the report.

A fight ensued. During the struggle, the knife was knocked out of Hodson’s hand and was found in the parking lot by bar security. The knife had traces of blood on the blade and handle, the report says.

The victim was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment. He had a cut on his face, and his ear was heavily damaged, according to the report.

Hodson was intoxicated at more than twice the legal limit and sustained minor injuries to his face and eye, the report says.

He was taken to the Johnson County jail and released on $4,500 bond.
