David L. Newton

TRAFALGAR

David L. Newton 86 of Trafalgar, IN passed away Thursday October 14, 2021. He was born December 2, 1934 in Anderson, IN to Forrest Newton and Catherine (Hall) Newton. He married Mary Anne (Hazel) Newton on April 7, 1958 in Noblesville, IN, she survives.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 until his retirement in 1975 as 1st Sergeant having served two tours in Guam, France, Spain, Jordan and was a part of the Apollo Gemini missions off the coast of Africa on Mauritius Island. He later served as an instructor at ITT Technical Institute in 1977 and later becoming director of education having established schools in Arlington, TX and Nashville, TN, before his retirement in 1987.

Survivors include his wife Mary Anne (Hazel) Newton of Trafalgar, IN, daughter Katy A. Armstrong (Mark) of Franklin, IN, a son David L. Newton Jr. (Debbie G.) of Murfreesboro, TN, six grandchildren James Armstrong (Andrea) of Trafalgar, IN, Elizabeth “Liz” Sims of Franklin, IN, Robert David Newton (Nicole) of Las Vegas, NV, Kevin Ryan Newton, Adam Russell Newton and Rachel Nicole Newton all of Murfreesboro, TN, great grandchildren Haley McAlpin of Panama City, FL, Evan Stafford and Erica Stafford both of Franklin, IN, Charlee Armstrong of Trafalgar, IN, Aliza Sims of Franklin, IN, Gemma Armstrong and Haddie Armstrong both of Trafalgar, IN and Lyla Grace Newton of Las Vegas, NV, a grandson in law Tim Tucker of Franklin, IN, a sister Faye Welborn of Anderson, IN, a brother Earl Newton (Susan) of Anderson, IN and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Melissa S. (Armstrong) Tucker on June 8, 2021, a brother Donald Newton, a brother in law John Welborn and nephews Ryan Welborn and Scott Oldham.

Friends may call Thursday October 21, 2021 from 9AM until 11AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 AM at Greenwlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN with Pastor Jeremi Welborn conducting with full military honors following with the United States Air Force Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard.
