Florence Genevieve Critney

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Florence Genevieve Critney, 94, of Columbus, passed away Saturday September 4, 2021 at her home. She was born January 6, 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late John Francis and Florence Marie (Blanford) Green. She married Francis Joseph Critney, Jr. on February 10, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 27, 2010.

Florence was a long time member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. She completed schooling as a trained practical nurse and graduated from Huffer Beauty College. She was an Avon representative, a 4-H leader, school cafeteria cook and a cook at the Ramada Inn. She was a hard working farm wife, an excellent seamstress and a great cook and hairstylist. She loved her garden, canning green beans and baking blackberry pies. Florence will be fondly remembered for her yeast rolls and cinnamon bread.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 11, 2021 in St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Marty Peter officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband in Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with a prayer service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Florence may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or a charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.

Florence is survived by her daughters, Margaret M. (Andrew) May of Franklin and Diana M. Olmsted of Taylorsville; sons, John D. Critney and Richard A. Critney, both of Columbus; a sister, Della May McGuire; brothers, Joseph Dudley Green and Robert Lee Green; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren with another on the way and many nieces and nephews. She was proud of all her offspring. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son Francis J. Critney III; brothers, John Francis Green, Jr. and James Edward Green; sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Jones, Clara Ann Jaggers and Mary Margaret Thomas and a grandson, Charles Aaron May.
