Franklin woman gets 17 years for dealing meth

A Franklin woman was sentenced this week to about 17½ years in prison for dealing methamphetamine.

Bethanie E. Zellars, 37, was sentenced for dealing meth, a Level 2 felony. Charges of possession of a narcotic and possession of a syringe were dismissed, per a plea agreement filed in Johnson County Superior Court 2.

Zellars is ordered to serve 6,388 days in the Indiana Department of Correction, according to court documents.

She has been at the Johnson County jail since the day of her arrest and will receive credit for 168 days, court documents show.

Zellars is also ordered to complete a drug treatment program that can be executed while in prison. If she successfully completes the program, her sentence may be revisited after four years, according to court documents.

Zellars and several others were arrested on various drug charges following a drug raid in early May at Zellars’ home in the 600 block of Overstreet Street. Franklin police had received multiple complaints of drug activity at the home, according to a Franklin Police Department report.

During a search of the home, police found multiple types of drugs and happened upon a drug deal that was about to be carried out, according to the report.

Ammon P. Sturgeon, 38, of Franklin, was also arrested during the raid and charged with possession of methamphetamine. He was sentenced Oct. 14 to a year of probation.

Several others charged after the raid still have cases pending in Johnson County courts:

Gerry A. Lucas, 35, of Franklin, was charged with possession of paraphernalia, and has since been charged with multiple counts of dealing methamphetamine in separate incidents.

Levi R. Baber, 24, of Lizton, was charged with dealing a narcotic, a Level 4 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony; and possession of paraphernalia and a syringe.

Corey F. Barnett, 42, of Franklin, was arrested on a dealing charge, but it was downgraded to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony; possession of a controlled substance; and false reporting.

Bailey Q. Abrams, 20, of Monrovia, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
