Marguerite M. Casey

GREENWOOD

Marguerite Marian Casey, 88, of Greenwood, passed away on October 26, 2021. She was born on November 7, 1932, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, to Paul and Mary Supko, both of whom preceded her in death. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from the University of Connecticut and Indiana University. She married Daniel J. Casey in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 17, 1954. Together they enjoyed over 67 years of marriage.

She retired from the IU School of Nursing, IUPUI, in May of 1997 as the Assistant Professor Emeritus. She established the American Indian Health Program, and the Statewide Health Screening and Referral Program for American Indians in Indiana. Marguerite was on the Board of Directors for the American Indian Center of Indiana, and the Board for the Indiana Minority Health Coalition, and a member of the American Indian Council, Inc. She was also the first recipient of the Sequoia Diversity Award, IUSON.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Daniel J. Casey; daughter, Erin M. Chamberlin and her husband Philip; sons, Paul B. Casey and his wife Marcia; Sean F. Casey and his wife Ellen; and her sister Paula A. Tagatac. She has 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parent’s, she is preceded in death by her sons: Daniel J. Casey, Jr., Joseph M. Casey.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, from 9:30a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at Saints Francis &Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 5901 West Olive Branch Rd, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis.
