Helen Joyce (Stainbrook) Holmes

LEXINGTON, S.C.

Helen Joyce (Stainbrook) Holmes, 89, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 26, 2021 at Agape Columbia Community Hospice House in Columbia South Carolina. She was a resident of The Columbia Presbyterian Community in Lexington, South Carolina.

Joyce was born on February 13, 1932 in Franklin, Indiana to William Everett and Helen Louise (Kelly) Stainbrook. She married Jack Irving Holmes on October 18, 1953 at First Presbyterian Church in Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack and her 3 siblings, Jane, Robert and Janet.

Survivors include 4 children, Janet (Ben) McIndoe, Jennifer Gilreath, John (Tom Connell) Holmes and Jane (James) Swanson, 7 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.

Joyce received her Bachelor’s degree from Franklin College and her Master’s Degree from Indiana Central University (now University of Indianapolis).

Joyce was a music teacher. She taught at Southwestern High School in Shelby County, Northwood Elementary School in Franklin and Morningside Elementary School in Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was also an adjunct instructor for Indian River Community College. Joyce was active in music throughout her life.

Joyce was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Franklin and also First Presbyterian Church in Stuart, FL. She was also an active member of Pi Beta Phi sorority at Franklin College. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Joyce will be interred along side her husband, Jack, at the New Albany National Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
