Grizzly Cubs pull away in Columbus

Class 4A No. 5 Franklin used a big third quarter to break open a close game and claim a 54-32 victory at Columbus North on Saturday afternoon. Ashlyn Traylor paced the Grizzly Cubs (2-0) with 17 points, while Kuryn Brunson was close behind with 15.

Trojans drop two at Fishers

Center Grove suffered a pair of close losses at the Fishers Classic, dropping a 47-46 decision to the host Tigers before losing to Hamilton Southeastern in double overtime, 69-64. Audrey Annee had 17 points against Fishers for the Trojans (0-3), followed by Savanna Bischoff with 11. Rachel Wirts led Center Grove against the Royals with 22 points, while Bischoff and Ella Hobson added 12 apiece.

Braves edged by Artesians

Despite 20 points from Lauren Foster, Indian Creek wound up on the short end of its season opener against Martinsville, taking a narrow 57-51 defeat.

Swimmers open with victories

The Franklin College men and women got their season started by sweeping their first three opponents, defeating Asbury, Bluffton and Hanover by comfortable margins. The women’s team has won 43 consecutive dual meets.

Caileigh McCafferty won three individual events for the Grizzly women, while Greenwood alumna Alayna Kenworthy posted victories in a pair of races. On the men’s side, freshmen Paul Klaeren and Campbell Coyle each claimed three individual first-place finishes.
