Man taken to hospital after car crashes into home

An Edinburgh couple got quite the surprise when a car crashed into their garage Sunday evening.

Just after 7 p.m. Sunday, first responders were called to the 300 block of Franklin Street, a few blocks west of East Side Elementary School, on a report of a vehicle driving into a house. When they arrived, they found a yellow Ford Mustang partially into an attached garage, according to the Edinburgh Police Department.

The homeowners told police they were inside their home when they heard and felt the crash, but they did not witness it.

The driver of the manual-transmission mustang told police he was driving on Franklin Street when he attempted to shift into 2nd gear. The gas pedal went to the floor, and he was unable to get the gas pedal to retrace, he said.

He was unable to slow down and lost control of the vehicle. It came to a stop once it crashed, the driver told police.

The driver was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Edinburgh’s police and fire departments responded, and the White River Township Fire Department assisted.
