Girls basketball

Grizzly Cubs rally past Royals

Class 4A No. 5 Franklin stormed back from an early 10-point deficit for a 74-57 victory at No. 8 Hamilton Southeastern on Wednesday night. Ashlyn Traylor paced the Grizzly Cubs (4-0) with 19 points, followed by Kuryn Brunson and Adelyn Walker with 17 each.

Men’s basketball falls short in opener

A double-digit hole was too much for Franklin College to overcome in a season-opeing 76-66 home loss to Otterbein on Wednesday. Matt Krause had 17 points and T.J. Deere added 13 for the Grizzlies, who briefly came back to tie the game before the Cardinals pulled back ahead for good with a 21-5 run.

Local athletes sign with colleges

Several Johnson County seniors signed letters of intent Wednesday to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

A dozen Center Grove athletes formalized their choices. Katie Egenolf (volleyball) and Ben Clarkston (men’s swimming) are headed to Ball State; Skyler Sichting will compete in women’s track at IUPUI, while teammate Bella Hodges will run track and cross country at IPFW. Golfers Drew Rowen and Luke Beetz are bound for UIndy and Marian, respectively, and Peyton Murphy will play women’s soccer at Southern Indiana. Additionally, four baseball players signed — Tyler Cerny (Indiana), Jacob Wilson (Dayton), Sam Griffith (Oakland) and Aidan Murphy (Delgado Community College).

Six Franklin athletes signed their letters — Addie Marshall (Butler) and Mollie Hill (Marian) in women’s soccer; Logan Devenport (Northern Kentucky), Jace Fowler (Indiana State) and Drew Doty (Anderson) in baseball; and Erin Lee (Southern Illinois) in softball.

Whiteland’s Haley Wilkerson will be joining Lee on the Salukis’ softball team.
