Woman dies after truck collides with semi

An Indianapolis woman died after her truck crashed into the back of a semi-truck trailer Tuesday afternoon near Amity.

Jessica Lange, 33, was taken to an Indianapolis hospital where she later died.

About 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lange was driving north on U.S. 31 near County Road 650 South, between Edinburgh and Amity, when she struck the back of the semi-truck trailer at about 55 mph, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

The semi-truck driver told deputies he came to a stop in the 6500 block of U.S. 31. He had his turn signal on while he waited to turn into a parking lot where another semi was exiting. Two cars went around the semi before Lange rear-ended it, according to the report.

Fire crews had to extricate Lange, who was trapped in the truck, a black Dodge Ram. She was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital where she was rushed into surgery, the report says.

She died from injuries sustained in the accident, Sheriff Duane Burgess said.

Northbound U.S. 31 was closed for a couple of hours Tuesday afternoon while the crash was investigated.
