Roncalli High School can spell v-i-c-t-o-r-y after students captured the school’s second consecutive Indiana State Class Two Championship.
In order to hoist the trophy, the spellers had to outperform students from 23 other schools, the best five of which advanced to the state finals Saturday at Purdue University. There, students spelled 74 of 90 words correctly, with junior Bryce Lowery finishing with a perfect score nine of nine words spelled correctly. Joining Lowery in helping Roncalli claim the title were seniors Ronan Euzen and Adelle Burkhardt and sophomores Emily Sering and Caitlynn Penollar, all of whom had near-perfect rounds, according to a news release from the southside Catholic school.
Other members of the Roncalli Spell Bowl team include: Lilly Babb, Lachlan Borders, Jean-Luc Euzen, Nicole Hunt, Sarah Jordan, Iang Ku, Ezra Littell, Dominic Pittman, Vinny Prendergast and Sam Sering.
