Seniors invited to local summit

Area seniors are encouraged to register for a special Senior Summit from Johnson County Senior Services, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at Victory Christian Church 1720 Graham Road, Franklin.

During the event, seniors will receive information about fire safety, dementia, coping with grief and technology from guest speakers. Seniors will receive an Amazon Echo Dot and learn how to use it to call 911, check the weather, play a song and more.

The event is being held as a reminder that seniors in Johnson County are important and they are loved, said Kimberly Smith, executive director of Johnson County Senior Services.

“When they leave I want them to feel special,” Smith said. “Seniors are the most underserved and underfunded population and we are going to continue to move heaven and earth to get them the things they need.”

The agency is offering the summit with grant funding and it is open to the first 200 people who register. Reservations are going fast, with 90 seats claimed on the first day of registration, Smith said.
