Verne D. Johnson 91 of Franklin, IN passed away Wednesday November 17, 2021 at Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community. He was born August 16, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Franklin Ebenezer Johnson and Agnes (Heitkamp) Johnson.

He married Jane C. (Jackson) Johnson on May 11, 1954, at Friendswood Church in Camby, IN.

He was a graduate of Plainfield High School, attended Earlham College and was a graduate of Butler University. He was a United States Navy Veteran

Verne was a successful sales associate having worked for Moore Business Forms, Schick Razors, Coty Cosmetics, and Playtex. He also had been a real estate broker.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, IN and former member of Plainfield United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader, served in several district and state levels of the United Methodist Conference in Indiana, served as a Sunday School teacher, church camp counselor, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge with his current membership at Franklin Lodge #107, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine Temple in Indianapolis where he was a member of the Reception Unit, Plainfield Kiwanis Club and served as former State Lieutenant Governor, former board member and president of the Plainfield Community School Corporation, past member and president of the Plainfield Jaycees, volunteer at The Historic Artcraft Theater in Franklin, IN, the Interchurch Food Pantry in Johnson County, Johnson Memorial Hospital and at the Indiana State Museum where he was active in Christmas activities. He was also a former coach with the Plainfield Little League.

Survivors include his wife Jane C. (Jackson) Johnson of Franklin, IN, his daughters Cindy J. Busch (Bruce) of Indianapolis, IN and Brenda J. Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, a son Thom D. Johnson of Westfield, IN, four grandchildren Blake Busch (Hanna) of Indianapolis, IN, T. Grant Johnson (Michelle) of Indianapolis, IN and Tyler Johnson (Sydney) of Indianapolis, IN, five great grandchildren Kaleb Johnson, Kolton Johnson, McKenzie Johnson, Levi Johnson and Owen Johnson, sisters Jackie and Susie. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Claire Busch and sisters Jerry and Dorothy and a brother James.

The Reverends Andy Kinsey and Bert Kite will conduct a service on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11AM at Grace United Methodist Church 1300 East Adams Street in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Sunday November 21, 2021 from 2PM until 4PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Burial with Military Honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Honor Guard #205 at Fairfield Friends Cemetery near Camby, IN.
