SR 44 bridge reopens after extended closure

A bridge on State Road 44 near the Johnson County-Shelby County line has reopened after a five-month extended closure.

The State Road 44 bridge over Sugar Creek, between County Road 700 E. and Sugar Creek Road in Franklin, initially closed on June 12 for a superstructure replacement project. The bridge was expected to reopen in August, but due to unforeseen circumstances, a full bridge replacement was required, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The bridge reopened to traffic Wednesday morning.
