Local communities prepare to celebrate the season

In one magical moment, the lights go on and the holiday season is illuminated in a warm glow.

Communities around Johnson County are getting in the spirit. Franklin will turn its downtown square into a winter wonderland following a day-long party featuring a parade, live Nativity and the arrival of Santa Claus. Greenwood has brought back beloved events such as breakfast with Santa to go along with a walking trail dotted with lighted displays.

Bargersville’s Santa Train and Edinburgh’s candle-lit historic downtown will wow visitors, while people will marvel at the 50-foot-tall MegaTree in New Whiteland.

And the whole season gets started Friday, when the famed Circle of Lights takes over downtown Indianapolis.

The variety of illuminated options will keep you warm even on cold winter nights. Here’s where to be and what to do over the holiday season.
