James W. “Jim” Thomas

GREENWOOD

88, of Greenwood, passed away November 26, 2021. He was born December 13, 1932 in Indianapolis, to the late Leonard J. and Opal Thomas. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and married Wilma D. Barbee. He worked at Allison Engine after returning from Korea, then as an independent insurance broker, he became an underwriter for New York Life Insurance, and then decided to go on the road as the owner/operator for Thomas Trucking Inc. for over 30 years. Jim was a charter member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #6138, where he served as Grand Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

A Mass of Christian Service will be held Friday, December 3, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S. Meridian Street, with visitation one hour prior. A private family burial will follow.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Wilma D. Thomas; children, Rosemary (Dan) Obert, Sharon (Guy) Perry, Mark (Robin Irvin) Thomas, Garett Thomas and Annette (Wade “Allen”) Taylor; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
