Center Grove headlines All-State football teams

Center Grove had the best high school football team in Indiana this year, so it wasn’t at all surprising that the Trojans headlined the All-State teams released by the Indiana Football Coaches Association on Monday.

Six Trojans were among those chosen for the IFCA’s Top 50 team, the best of the best players from all six classes. Defensive linemen Caden Curry and James Schott were selected along with defensive back Mitchell Evans. On the other side of the ball, Center Grove was represented by quarterback Tayven Jackson, running back Drew Wheat and lineman Sam Buras.

Whiteland tight end Max Sullivan was also named to the Top 50, and he and Curry were both named Mr. Football Position Award winners at their respective spots as well. Curry is considered one of the front-runners for Mr. Football honors, along with the likes of Gibson Southern quarterback Brady Allen.

One other Trojan, tight end Shane Bennett, was on the Class 6A senior All-State team.

Four county players made the Class 5A All-State teams. A pair of Whiteland teammates, linebacker Daniel Adams and defensive back Quinn Warweg, were on the senior team, while Warrior offensive tackle Tayton Schakel and Franklin defensive lineman Reece Byerly made the junior squad.

Greenwood tight end Carter Campbell was named to the junior squad Class 4A, while Edinburgh quarterback Riley Palmeter was a Class A senior All-State selection.

Five Roncalli players also earned 4A All-State recognition. Quarterback Aidan Leffler, receiver Kyle Lockard, offensive lineman Grant Ray and linebacker Tyson Garrett made the senior team, while offensive lineman Trevor Lauck was on the junior list.
