Nineveh man arrested in Elizabethtown shooting

A Nineveh man has been arrested by Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies in regard to a shooting Monday at an Elizabethtown mobile home park.

Deputies have detained Ethan Sherfield, 21, Nineveh in the shooting investigation. They were called to the Sunny Brook Mobile Home Park, 10202 E. Legal Tender Road, Elizabethtown, at 6:24 p.m. Monday about the shooting.

Don Brown, 52, Elizabethtown, had been shot three times at the scene, deputies said.

He was flown via medical helicopter to a hospital in Indianapolis for treatment, although the hospital was not named by deputies. Brown’s condition remains unknown at this time, but he did undergo surgery Tuesday, deputies said.

Sherfield was located nearby by deputies. He was identified by witnesses at the scene as the shooter and was detained pending more investigation.

He was later remanded to the Bartholomew County jail on preliminary charges of battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony, and intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony.

Sherfield remains in jail in lieu of $22,500 bond, jail officials said.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. Information may be left anonymously, according to the department.
