Local Amazon customers could get faster same-day delivery this holiday season.
A new mini Amazon fulfillment center opened in Greenwood, the company announced this week.
The mini-fulfillment center on Chaney Avenue opened Nov. 3, and is optimized for faster delivery speeds. The facility, which Amazon says is a first-of-its-kind, is about 100,000 square feet — roughly a tenth of the size of a traditional fulfillment facility, according to an Amazon news release.
The faster same-day delivery option is for Amazon Prime members, with delivery in as fast as five hours from purchase. Additionally, up to 3 million items across more than a dozen categories that are labeled as “Today by” or “Overnight by” can be ordered for delivery throughout the day, and customers can choose a delivery window which works best for their schedule, according to the news release.
The facility employs hundreds of both full- and part-time workers, and also offers opportunities for Amazon Flex drivers. Amazon Flex is one of the company’s delivery services, for which drivers use their own vehicles to deliver packages based on their own schedules, the news release says.
