UPDATED 1 P.M. THURSDAY:

A man who was injured in a construction accident Wednesday in Bargersville is doing well at a local hospital, officials said Thursday.

About 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, a construction crew was doing roadwork east of Whiteland Road and County Road 400 West/Saddle Club Road with a small excavator when the excavator hit an overhead communication line. The operator got off the excavator in an attempt to untangle the wire with a pole. He lost control of the pole and it fell onto power lines, electrocuting him, said Mike Pruitt, Bargersville’s deputy fire chief.

Coworkers rendered aid to the man after the accident, and medical personnel took him to Community South Hospital in Indianapolis, Pruitt said. The man was later taken to Eskenazi Hospital.

The man’s identity has not yet been released.
