High-speed pursuit through Greenwood, Indy’s southside injured a woman

INDIANAPOLIS — Police arrested a man after a high-speed car chase that injured a Bloomington woman Wednesday night on Indianapolis’ southside.

Charles Jamarr Warren III, 29, of Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage, both felonies; a felony count of failure to appear; three misdemeanor counts of failure to appear; and two out-of-county warrants. The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.

Greenwood police attempted to stop a dark-colored SUV about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of U.S. 31 and County Line Road for a minor traffic violation. Instead of pulling over, the SUV fled northbound on U.S. 31 at high speeds, according to a Greenwood Police Department news release.

The vehicle continued onto Indianapolis’ southside at high speeds, and as it approached the red light at Stop 11 Road, the driver — later identified as Warren — ran a red light and struck a silver sedan travelling west on Stop 11. The driver of the sedan was identified as a 23-year-old Bloomington woman, according to the news release.

She was thrown from her sedan and into the southbound lanes of U.S. 31. Police say the woman slid across the pavement before stopping under the front of a stopped SUV, the news release says.

Warren drove his car into the southbound lanes of U.S. 31, jumped a curb and entered the parking lot of a restaurant near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Stop 11 Road. The car then rammed into two parked cars in a parking lot, according to the news release.

Warren exited his car and attempted to flee on foot. He made it across U.S. 31 before Greenwood police “forcibly apprehended” him, the news release says.

Two passengers in Warren’s car did not flee the scene. They were treated by medics and released, according to the news release.

The Bloomington woman whose car was struck was taken to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Warren was also taken to a nearby hospital for a medical exam before being taken to jail.

Warren was wanted in Johnson, Marion and Hendricks counties for failing to appear in court. He was also wanted in Greenwood City Court for failure to appear, according to online court records.

Warren remains at the Johnson County jail where he is held without bond.
