Host Trojans win invite

Center Grove’s boys and girls were victorious at their College Event Invitational on Thursday, comfortably outpointing Bloomington North, Bloomington South and Columbus North. Ben Clarkston led the Trojan boys, claiming individual wins in the 50-yard freestyle, 200 backstroke and 50 butterfly while also helping two victorious relays. Other first-place boys finishers included Aleks Parsetich (1,000 free), Vincent Howe (200 free) and Connor Conkin (200 breaststroke). The girls took the 200 freestyle relay and also got wins from Grace Clarkston (50 back, 50 free), Lara Phipps (100 IM) and Mia Prusiecki (diving).

Trojans second at Al Smith

Up against an elite 32-team field, No. 4 Center Grove finished second to Crown Point at the prestigious Al Smith Classic in Mishawaka. The Trojans got individual championships from Reese Courtney (120 pounds), Hayden Watson (145) and Drake Buchanan (182) as well as runner-up showings from Charlie LaRocca (106) and Julian Weems (160).

Women’s basketball falls in OT

Franklin College dropped its second straight at DePauw’s holiday tournament, losing a 74-71 overtime battle against Milwaukee School of Engineering. Kayla Bruner led the Grizzlies (4-6) with 19 points off the bench, while CiCi Bailey added 17 points, 14 rebounds and three steals.
