Man hospitalized after Greenwood shooting

A man is hospitalized after an early morning shooting in Greenwood.

Police responded to a report of shots fired about 4:15 a.m. Thursday to the 800 block of E. Main St. on Greenwood’s east side. While on the way to the scene, officers were informed a white SUV with a trailer was involved in the shooting, according to a Greenwood Police Department news release.

Police stopped the SUV about two blocks from the scene. The victim, a 30-year-old-man from Cosby, Tenn., was in the front passenger seat with a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers provided first aid to the victim until medical personnel arrived, according to the news release.

The victim told police a dark-colored sedan blocked his vehicle as it attempted to pull into a convenience store parking lot on E. Main St. The victim exited the SUV and approached the driver’s side of the sedan, and the sedan’s driver allegedly pointed a silver handgun out the driver’s side window and fired several shots at the victim, hitting him in the leg, the news release says.

The suspect sedan fled the scene and was last seen travelling southbound on Emerson Avenue. The driver is described as a white male with short, dark-colored, curly hair, according to the news release.

The victim remains at an area hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
