Surprise! First babies of new year born days early

A Trafalgar couple rang in the new year with a new son.

At exactly midnight on New Year’s Day, the county’s first baby of the year was born at Franciscan Health Indianapolis.

Atticus Charles Eggers was born to Trafalgar couple Alisha and Drew Eggers, a Franklin attorney and former city council member. Atticus weighed a healthy six pounds, 10.5 ounces, and was 20 inches long, a hospital spokesperson said.

Atticus was due Jan. 10, so the couple was surprised when Alisha went into labor on New Year’s Eve. Though he was nine days early, the delivery was quick and easy, and both are recovering at home after a quick in-and-out delivery, Alisha Eggers said Monday.

Atticus, the couple’s second child, came into the world with less fanfare than their first-born, 9-year-old Aideyn. Due to COVID-19 protocols, only Drew could be there, whereas the delivery room was packed with loved ones the first time around, she said.

The experience was more private this time, but it was a great way to start the new year, Alisha Eggers said.

“2021 had been really rough, so it was really nice to start off 2022 like that,” she said.

About two hours later, a Greenwood couple welcomed the county’s second baby of the new year at Community Hospital South.

Elizabeth and David Fulkman welcomed their third son, Luke Fulkman, who weighed a healthy 8.4 pounds, and was 21 inches long.

The Fulkmans were also surprised when Elizabeth went into labor on New Year’s Eve. The couple was out celebrating with their young sons, 5-year-old Rhett and 2-year-old Connor. But the celebration was cut short, as Luke decided to come four days early, according to a Community Health Network news release.

The first baby born in Johnson County came into the world at 11:09 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. Whiteland couple Nicole Bonaventura and Nick Alexander gave birth to a daughter, Sylvie Nicole Alexander, who weighed 10 pounds, four ounces, and was 22 inches long.
