Center Grove wins MIC title

Competing in its final Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference tourney, No. 3 Center Grove went out in style by winning the meet for the first time in its history on Saturday. The Trojans outpointed runner-up Carmel, 297-238. Individual weight class titles were won by Charlie LaRocca (106 pounds), Wyatt Kresja (132), Hayden Watson (145), Drake Buchanan (182), Royce Deckard III (220) and Nate Johnson (285). Center Grove also got runner-up efforts from Eddie Goss (113), Reese Courtney (120), Michael Tharpe (126), Silas Stits (138), Andre Merritt (152), Noah Clouser (170) and Bryce Crump (195).

Local teams compete at Mid-State

Franklin was second and Whiteland third at the Mid-State Conference tournament, with the Grizzly Cubs coming up just short of Perry Meridian, 271 to 257.5. Local individual champions included Whiteland’s Joey Buttler at 126 pounds and Grizzly Cub wrestlers Dayson Lashlee (132), Ethan Jeffery (138), Jude Barger (152), Nolan Skaggs (220) and Jacob Johnson (285). Greenwood finished eighth in the team standings.

Braves third in WIC tourney

Indian Creek placed third in the Western Indiana Conference meet at Edgewood. The Braves got individual championships from Luke Neibert (106 pounds), Jackson Heaston (113) and Jackson Neibert (145).

Girls basketball

Trojans smother Owls

Center Grove rolled at Seymour on Saturday, 51-31. Savanna Bischoff led a balanced attack with nine points for the Trojans (11-8), followed by Audrey Annee with eight, Kaho Takeda with seven and Ella Hobson and Rachel Wirts with six each.

Woodmen keep rolling

Greenwood extended its win streak to four with a 37-23 victory over Eastern Greene. Quinn Kelly scored 10 points for the Woodmen (9-9), while Lily Howe added nine and Emily Metzger had seven.
