Police search Greenwood theater after masked juvenile makes threat

A threat made by a teenager led to an increased police presence Sunday night at a Greenwood movie theater.

Greenwood police were called to investigate a disturbance at Regal Cinemas, near the Greenwood Park Mall, shortly after 10 p.m. Callers reported that three juveniles wearing ski masks had entered the theater and made a threat, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.

When officers arrived, they searched the theater for individuals carrying firearms and wearing masks. Police searched several theater rooms employees said the suspects could have been in before requesting access to security footage, according to the report.

Security footage showed three teenagers wearing masks enter the theater lobby, where they stood briefly before leaving, the report said.

Police spoke with an employee who said a direct threat had not been made. The employee told police the teens had requested help from theater employees, and did not receive the help they requested. One of the teens then mumbled to another that they should just “shoot up the place,” according to the report.

Police told employees to contact 911 if the teens returned, the report said.
