Blood drive planned Friday in Edinburgh

Residents who want to donate blood will have the opportunity to do so during a blood drive Friday in Edinburgh.

The Versiti Blood Center of Indiana will host a mobile blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot behind the John R. Drybread Community Center, 100 E. Main Cross St. Donations of blood and double red cells will be accepted, according to Versiti.

Several blood donation agencies have declared an urgent need for donations. Versiti issued an emergency appeal for blood donations earlier this month, and the American Red Cross declared its first-ever blood crisis last week.

Those wanting to donate can sign up online at donate.indiana.versiti.org, or text 317-494-1928. Masks are required for those wanting to donate, per guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Versiti will also offer free items to donors, the company says.
