Greenwood police searching for three armed robbery suspects

Police are searching for three people involved in an armed robbery earlier this week outside Greenwood Park Mall.

Greenwood police responded about 8:40 p.m. Monday to the 1200 block of N. U.S. 31 after a 911 caller reported three men had robbed a woman in the parking lot outside of Macy’s and fled in a silver SUV. As soon as officers were notified, they tried to locate the silver SUV but were unsuccessful, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.

The victim told police she was about to get in her car after work when she was robbed at gunpoint by three Black men. One of the men, who was wearing a black mask, got out of the SUV, pointed a gun at her and asked for her purse. The victim said the man looked young and could have been a juvenile, according to the report.

The victim gave him her purse, he got back into the SUV and the three men took off. The SUV fled the mall parking lot, turning onto County Line Road. She tried to follow them but was unable to catch up. The victim said in addition to her purse, two debit cards and her driver’s license were stolen, the report shows.

Later that day, the victim’s spouse said one of her cards was used at a gas station shortly after the robbery. Two other charges were reported, and the cards had been canceled since then, according to the report.

The spouse also told police about a possible witness to the robbery. When police spoke with the witness, they said they were getting into a car in the mall parking lot when they saw a silver SUV parked with its lights on. As the witness was leaving the parking lot, they saw the same SUV run a stop sign and turn onto County Line Road at high speeds, the report shows.

Police searched for the SUV through Flock license plate reader footage but were unable to find any footage of the vehicle around the time of the incident. Police did find a license plate reader hit on a silver SUV that had driven through the intersection of County Line Road and Madison Avenue multiple times a week. That SUV was linked to an armed robbery Jan. 3 in Indianapolis, according to the report.
