Girls basketball

Grizzly Cubs rout Warriors

Kuryn Brunson poured in 24 points in Class 4A No. 2 Franklin’s 78-35 victory over Whiteland. Ashlyn Traylor finished with 17 points for the Grizzly Cubs (20-1, 6-0 Mid-State), while Lauren Klem and Erica Buening added 12 and 10, respectively. The Warriors (6-14, 3-3) got 10 points from Muskaan Ghuman and eight from Braylyn Clendenen.

Braves win fifth straight

Indian Creek remained undefeated in WIC play with a 41-24 win at West Vigo. Lauren Foster had 14 points to lead the Braves (17-4, 9-0), while Faith Wiseman contributed seven points and 16 rebounds.

Trojans drop MIC clash

Ben Davis used an 18-4 fourth quarter to pick up a 47-43 comeback win over Center Grove. The Trojans (11-9, 2-4 MIC) got 11 points from Savanna Bischoff, eight from Audrey Annee, seven from Ella Hobson and six from Aubrie Booker.

Trojans grab road win

Shane Bennett’s 16 points helped Center Grove pick up a 50-37 win at Roncalli on Saturday. Jalen Bundy and Ethan McComb each scored 10 for the Trojans (8-6); Luke Kegerreis finished with a game-high 22 for the Royals (4-9).

Cougars rally past Twisters

Led by 20 points from Max Booher, Greenwood Christian used a late surge to earn a 47-41 triumph at Oldenburg Academy. Matt Teike added 12 points for the Cougars (8-8), while Ian Reed chipped in eight.

Braves compete at WIC meet

Indian Creek’s boys finished fourth and the girls seventh in the Western Indiana Conference meet on Saturday. The Braves got individual wins on the boys side from Evan Dennis (50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly), Nolan Greene (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Evan Schaub (500 free) and also won the 400 freestyle relay. Ella Taylor was a runaway winner in girls diving.

Trojans sweep on senior day

Center Grove took both halves of its meet with visiting Lawrence Central, with the girls taking a 147-31 win and the boys rolling by a similar 139-43 score. The Trojan girls got individual victories from Grace Clarkston (50 and 100 freestyle), Lara Phipps (200 IM, 500 free), Kayla Fischer (200 free), Clara Brandon (100 butterfly), Kennedy Beckner (100 backstroke) and Mia Prusiecki (diving). For the boys, Ben Clarkston (50 free and 100 fly), Evan Hernandez (200 IM, 100 free), Jonah Brandon (500 free), Harrison Hite (100 back) and Garrett Crist (100 breast) all had first-place finishes.

Swimmers roll in home finale

In their last home dual meet of the season, Franklin College easily defeated Rose-Hulman, with the the men taking a 183-115 victory and the women dominating by a 251-30 margin. The men got individual wins from Paul Klaeren (100 and 200 breaststroke, 200 IM), Nolan Davis (200 and 500 freestyle), Jack Burke (100 and 200 backstroke), Kosmo Wojack (200 butterfly) and Gauge Creech (diving). Earning first-place finishes for the women were Alayna Kenworthy (100 back, 200 breast, 200 IM), Emme Egan (100 and 200 free), Samantha Phillips (200 fly, 500 free), Caileigh McCafferty (200 back, 100 fly), Erin Perkins (1,000 free), Becky Pfeifer (100 breast), Kennedy Minter (50 free) and Faith Jackson (diving).

Men’s basketball falls at Defiance

A cold shooting day doomed Franklin College to a 65-52 defeat at Defiance. Ty Wright and Jalen Love scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Grizzlies (8-9, 4-6 HCAC).

Women’s basketball comes up short

Franklin College saw its chances for a big road win evaporate late in a 65-60 setback at Defiance. Destinee Cross had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies (4-12, 2-7 HCAC), while Sarah O’Day added 12 points and three steals.
