Police arrested a Texas woman they say broke into a Greenwood man’s home and injured him.
Cynthia D. Dickens, 47, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was arrested on preliminary charges of residential breaking and entering, a felony, and battery, a misdemeanor. The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.
Greenwood police were called just before 5 p.m. Friday to the 1700 block of Walnut Lane after the homeowner reported a woman had entered his home after being dropped off and was refusing to leave. While police were on their way to the scene, they were told by dispatchers the woman had taken the homeowner’s phone, tore his skin, and was trying to get a gun, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.
Officers arrived and did not hear any noises coming from the home. When they tried to enter after announcing themselves, an aggressive dog came to the door, so officers moved back and waited for backup, according to the report.
The homeowner exited the home, and police asked him to get his dog, as it was lunging at officers. The homeowner redirected the dog’s attention and officers got a leash for it. Police gave the owner the leash, but the dog refused to come to the owner. The dog ran around to the other side of the house, and officers heard a taser being deployed, the report said.
The homeowner’s hand was bleeding and appeared to be missing skin. He declined medical attention and said he suffered from debilitating ailments. He told police he was sitting in his front room when he saw a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office vehicle leave his street, which was on a dead end. Shortly after, he heard his back door slam, according to the report.
Dickens walked toward the front room where the man had been holding his revolver which he keeps next to his front room chair. The man told police Dickens forced the front room door open, the report said.
The man told Dickens to leave or he was going to call the police. Dickens attempted to grab the gun, and during a struggle, she tore his hand and took his gun, leading him to call the police. The man said Dickens held him down in his chair during the incident, according to the police.
The homeowner told police Dickens did not ever live there, and was not invited, or scheduled, to come to his home. He said Dickens and a significant other were previously over at his house, but that she did not have permission to force her way in, the report said.
The man asked to file charges against Dickens. She eventually exited the home and was taken into custody. She declined to answer questions or give a statement to police, the report said.
Dickens was taken to the Johnson County jail, where she is held on $2,200 bond.
