Dorothy Ann ‘Dot’ Ward

FRANKLIN

Dorothy A. “Dot” (McKinney) Ward 78 of Franklin, IN passed away Thursday January 20, 2022 at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, IN. She was born May 10, 1943 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Shelby Thomas McKinney and Katherine Belle (Satterfield) McKinney. She married Roy A. Ward, he preceded her in death on May 2, 2014. To her friends, she was a kind gentle soul who never met a stranger. She was known for her infectious smile and warm greetings. She loved spending time with her family and was the favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her children and grandchildren were among her most treasured accomplishments.

Dot was a long-time member of Amity Baptist Church where she wore many different hats, including teaching Sunday school, chairing Vacation Bible School, organizing and managing the prayer chain, and serving as the first female deacon, to name just a few. She was a mighty prayer warrior and could be counted on to pray for anyone in need. She seemed to have a direct line of communication with the Lord, and when she spoke, he seemed to listen.

In her adult years, Dot enjoyed shopping, crocheting, camping, playing euchre with friends, spending time with family, and had a small cake making business. She loved designing and making cakes for all occasions. Her homemade carrot cakes and blackberry jam cakes were family favorites.

Dot spent the last two years of her life at Homeview Health and Rehab in Franklin. Her limited mobility and then the pandemic prevented her from being able to leave the facility to spend time with family. The staff at the facility helped to fill the void for her. She not only knew the staff by name, but she also knew the names of their children. She enjoyed sharing her faith with the staff, and often said God had placed her there for a reason, and she was going to fulfill His expectations. Jamie, Leesa, Sheila, Ellie, Samantha, Kayla, Crystal, Matt, and Tori were among the few she called her favorites. The loving care they provided helped her to survive the isolation caused by COVID and allowed her to pass peacefully into the next life. Her family is forever grateful to all of the staff for becoming part of her legacy.

Survivors include her son Roy E. Ward of Franklin, IN, a brother Tom McKinney of Mooresville, IN, a sister, Annetta Sue Hoagland of Greensburg, IN, two grandchildren Makayla Weber and Nathan Weber of Osgood, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Shelby Thomas McKinney and Katherine Belle (Satterfield) McKinney, her husband Roy A. Ward, a daughter Kimberly Weber and a sister Shelby Jean King.
