Candice J. Rockemann, 71, of Franklin, IN passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022.

She was born February 11, 1950 in Belleville, Illinois to Delmar Rockemann and Dorothy (Gardner) Rockemann.

Candice graduated from Illinois State University in 1972 with a degree in Education.

She started her career as a high school English teacher and coach in Illinois. She was beloved by students and faculty alike. She worked in many leadership roles for Anthem Insurance, Inc. in Indianapolis for over 35 years. After retiring from Anthem, she served 12 years as an usher for the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field. Candy was awarded Game Day Employee of the Year for 2021. She recently worked as a usher for Gainbridge Field House (home of the Indiana Pacers) in Indianapolis, In.

She was a member of Southport Baptist Church where she was active with the tech team working with the music leaders to ensure that congregants could enjoy worship virtually if unable to attend in person.

Candy loved sports and was very active with a variety of sports her entire life. She played softball in Illinois and Indiana. She coached girl’s tennis at Whiteland Community High School in the 1990’s. She held a black belt in Taekwondo. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Legends Country Club in Franklin. In addition to Softball and Golf, she participated in swimming, fencing, volleyball, soccer, rollerblading, whitewater rafting, skeet shooting and running the Mini 500. She enjoyed attending Indians and Fuel games with friends. If she had a chance to try something new, she was quick to join in. Her motto was “Embrace life and do the things that scare you a little.”

She enjoyed gardening and was constantly planting new flower beds at the farm. Christmas Light Extraordinaire, she worked hard and was very proud of decorating the house and yard at Christmas.

She was a Disney fanatic. Goofy being her most loved character. She was a Disney Vacation Club member for 30 years. She traveled to Disney at least twice a year. Her last trip in November, included her great-nephew, 5 year old, Maverick. He was the love of her life and seeing Disney thru his eyes gave her great joy.

Candy loved to travel. Whether it was Disney trips with the girls, Alaska, Grand Canyon, Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, Strawberry Festival with friends, or golf trips to Tennessee, Kentucky and Michigan or Wash DC, Yellowstone and New England with her church group, she was always up for a new adventure.

Candy was a friend of animals. She always picked rescues and selected the ones she thought may not be loved by others. She knew it was her job to spoil them and let them know they were truly loved. She will be especially missed by her latest kidz; Jax, Meko and Remi.

Candy was one of the most selfless, most caring, most giving people. She was loved by so many and wouldn’t have wanted anyone to be sad, but to be happy for the time and experiences she shared with so many.

Survivors include her niece Whitney Wells (Brandon) of Bunker Hill, IL, nephew Marty Rockemann of Fairview Heights, IL, a great nephew Maverick Wells, sister-in-law Elaine (Gary) Remelius of Fairview Heights, Il, and her forever best friend Jodi Fergason of Franklin, IN. Her extended family Soni and John Mitchell, Andy Fergason, Joe Mitchell, Andrew White, Zak White, Ayden White, Ghianna White and Samantha White of Franklin, IN. Many close friends including Deb Toolan, Suzy Baker, Sherry Nord of Florida and Dave and Shirley Halterman of Plainfield, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Steve Rockemann and extended family Paul E. Fergason and Connie La-Dee (Neese) Fergason.

Pastor Jeff Stratton will conduct a service on Saturday January 29, 2022 at 4PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com candice-rockemann. Friends may call on Saturday January 29, 2022 from 2PM until service time at the mortuary.
