Primary filing deadline fast approaching

County residents who are interested in running for office in the May primary have until Friday to file for candidacy.

The deadline for candidates to file for office for either the Democratic or Republican primary election is at noon Friday. This year’s primary election will take place on May 3.

The only exception is for four county council districts. The deadline for County Council Districts 1-4 was extended to noon Feb. 25 following a court decision related to the county’s redistricting for council districts.

Residents who are interested in running for county, township or municipal offices can file for office at the Johnson County Clerk’s Office located in the Johnson County Courthouse, 5 E. Jefferson St., Franklin.

Residents filing for state or federal office must do so at the Indiana Secretary of State’s office at 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, or with the Indiana Election Division located in room E-204 at the Indiana Government Center, 302 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, according to the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office.
