Prusiecki shines as local divers advance to state

The divers competing at Center Grove last weekend called their sectional one of the toughest in the state.

On Tuesday, they proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Adding four more sectionals’ worth of opponents to the mix, the girls who made up the top four at Center Grove on Saturday were atop the field once again at the Jasper Regional.

Leading the way was Trojan sophomore Mia Prusiecki, who posted a jaw-dropping score of 572.95 to set a new regional record and finish well ahead of the runner-up, Indian Creek’s Ella Taylor (486.05).

Both divers broke their own school standards with those scores. For additional perspective on Prusiecki’s performance, the state meet record is 563.65, set by Hamilton Heights’ Brooke Schultz in 2015.

Also comfortably earning a return ticket to Saturday’s state final was Franklin sophomore Camy Quiggins, who finished fourth with a personal-best total of 431.60.

All three county divers scored points at state as freshmen, with Prusiecki placing second, Taylor 13th and Quiggins 14th. They will try to improve on those finishes this Saturday at the IU Natatorium.
