College notebook: Mappes picks up wins for Uindy wrestling

Center Grove graduate Gleason Mappes won both of his matches at 184 pounds for the University of Indianapolis wrestling team as it hosted the Greyhound Duals.

The Indiana University men’s golf team won the B1G Match Play Championship in Hammock Beach, Florida. It was an effort that included senior Ethan Shepherd and junior Noah Gillard.

The St. Leo baseball team is off to a 3-1 start with senior first baseman Mike Wyman delivering a hit and knocking in a run.

Indiana Wesleyan sophomore Jordan Casey helped the women’s track and field squad with personal-best efforts in both the shot put (10.43 meters) and weighted throw (10.66) at the IWU Midwest indoor classic.

Ball State freshman Makensie Kramer ran a time of 9.0 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles at the Meyo indoor track and field invitational at Notre Dame.

Junior guard Ella Thompson scored 19 points, grabbed six boards and made two steals to lead Bentley over St. Michael’s, 75-54.

Emma Utterback helped Vermont women’s basketball down UMass Lowell, 56-55, with eight points and three assists. She had eight points, four rebounds and two assists in a 47-34 win at Binghamton in a game played in Vestal, New York.

Senior guard Cassidy Hardin scored eight points and had three boards in Purdue’s 80-67 loss to Northwestern. She scored two points in a 64-57 loss at Indiana and had nine points, five rebounds and two assists in an 81-77 victory over Penn State.

Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis had six points and six rebounds in the team’s 73-57 home loss to Illinois. He finished with 13 points, 11 boards and three blocks in IU’s 59-51 loss at Northwestern.

Spencer Piercefield scored 19 points and had three assists to help Indiana Wesleyan defeat Grace College, 79-69. He had 11 points, nine assists and three rebounds in a 100-90 home loss to Huntington.

Senior guard Jared DeHart scored 26 points and made two steals for Bethel men’s basketball in a 95-90 loss at Taylor. He had six points, two assists and two steals in the team’s 92-75 loss at Mt. Vernon Nazarene.

Greenwood

Indiana junior wrestler Nick Willham produced his team’s only points in a 36-3 loss at Illinois, earning a 3-1 victory in the 197-pound weight class.

Franklin College junior Nick Patton placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.0 seconds at the Tim Hreha Memorial track and field invitational at DePauw. Junior Janae Johnson competed in women’s 60 hurdles for the Grizzlies, taking third in 10.16 seconds.

Marian freshman third baseman Brodie Rinehold delivered a single, double and scored two runs as the Knights baseball squad won against Truett McConnell, 9-4, at Cartersville, Georgia.

Ball State freshman swimmer Ethan Pheifer was part of the second-place 200 medley relay in a meet against Valparaiso, finishing in a time of 1:37.61. He placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:47.30).

Drew McGaha ran a personal best of 2:05.41 in the 800-meter run at the Tim Hreha Memorial track and field invitational at DePauw. Teammate Eli Cochrane was part of the victorious 4×400 relay, which clocked a time of 3:37.75.

Marian senior Sam Barnett ran a time of 53.91 seconds to place 13th in the 400-meter dash at the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic.

Butler senior Chandler McGaha ran an 800 time of 1:51.67 at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.

UIndy runner Andrew Bixler posted a new personal record time of 8:51.86 in the 3,000-meter run at the Bellarmine Track and Field Classic to finish 16th overall.

Junior forward Bayleigh Torrance had three points for Franklin College women’s basketball team in a 79-77 victory over Anderson, and 11 points and three rebounds in a 66-60 loss at Hanover.

Whiteland

Marian freshman Gabi Allen placed fifth in the 200-meter dash at the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic, posting a time of 26.36 seconds. Allen was also third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.24 seconds) and part of the fifth-place 4×400 relay.

Lipscomb freshman Bella Jackson placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.21 seconds as the Bison competed at the Bellarmine Track and Field Classic. She was also second in the high jump (5 feet, 7 inches), 17th in the shot put and part of the seventh-place 4×400 relay.

Franklin College women’s basketball defeated Anderson, 79-77, as point guard Libby Baker finished with four points, six rebounds and four assists.

Junior forward Carter Crowe had seven points, four rebounds and two assists for Franklin College men’s hoops in its 92-67 loss to Hanover.

Greenwood Christian

Freshman Styles McCorkle had three points and a rebound for Wabash College men’s basketball in its 103-83 victory over Hiram College.
