Betty L. (Wunderlich) Herron

BETTY HAS GONE HOME, Betty L. (Wunderlich) Herron 79 of Greenwood, IN passed away Thursday February 10, 2022, at her home in Greenwood, IN. She was born September 8, 1942, in Evansville, IN to Frederick “Bud” and Rita (Debes) Wunderlich. Betty is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband John L. Herron. They were married on September 21, 1963, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Evansville, IN.

Preceding her in death was her father in 1958, her mother in 1963 and her older sister Lanette Causey in 2012. With the death of her mother, Betty took on the responsibility of raising her two younger brothers Gary and Jimmy Wunderlich at ages 15 and 10 respectively.

Betty has two children Mark Herron of Indianapolis, IN and Jodi Herron Behr (Peter) of Houston, Texas, her two grandchildren Laura Anne Behr and Adam Thomas Behr both of Houston, Texas, two brothers Gary Wunderlich (Dianne) of Evansville, IN and Jimmy Wunderlich (Mia) of Dallas, Texas. Other surviving members of her family include a niece, nephews, grand nephews and a grandniece.

Betty was a graduate of F.J. Reitz High School Class of 1960 where she was the top Business Student and where she was secretary of her Senior Class.

She worked in the legal field all of her life, first with the Evansville law firm of Frick and Powell, then upon the move to Greenwood, IN she worked for attorneys Gantz and Smart. For the last 29 years of her career, she worked for the Indiana Court of Appeals, under the guidance of Judge Patrick Sullivan for 25 years and her last 4 years on the court of Judge Mathias. She retired in 2012 due to her Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

Not only being a mother to her own family, she was a guiding force to young attorneys that served as new law clerks. Betty supported her children in all the school activities including sports and marching band at Center Grove High School. Betty’s laugh made an imprint on everyone who heard it and we are sure that is resounding in heaven as Betty and her mother and father are reunited.

Betty was a member of Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Church in Greenwood, IN and her love to her church of baptism, Sacred Heart in Evansville, IN.

Due to the pandemic and her family’s request, no services will be conducted. A celebration of life service will be conducted at later date. Inurnment will take place next to her parents at Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville, IN.
