Flood warning in effect today

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Johnson County and surrounding counties.

The flood warning is in effect until 1:45 a.m. Friday, according to the NWS.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. A portion of central Indiana, including Johnson, Marion, Morgan, Rush and Shelby are included in the warning. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring, the NWS says.

Just before 8 a.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible, according to the NWS.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads, the NWS says.
