Trojans, Grizzly Cubs rule prelims

Favorite Center Grove and nine-time defending champion Franklin both took care of business during Thursday evening’s sectional preliminaries, setting the stage for a thrilling clash in Saturday afternoon’s finals.

The Trojans filled 23 of a possible 24 individual spots in championship finals, led by top seeds Garrett Crist (200 IM and 100 backstroke), Ben Clarkston (50 freestyle) and the 200 medley relay team. The host Grizzly Cubs, close behind with 20 individual finalists, were first in both freestyle relays and got top individual swims from Anthony Ries (200 free), Callum Buchanan (100 free) and Isaac Layton (500 free).

Greenwood landed three relays and seven individuals in championship finals. Indian Creek, led by 100 butterfly top seed Evan Dennis, got four individuals and two relays locked into top-eight spots; Whiteland has two relays and one individual.

Divers will be thrown into the mix on Saturday, with their preliminary rounds starting at 9 a.m.
