College notebook: Rudd helps Wildcats get out to fast start

The Northwestern softball team played in the Northern Lights tournament in Leesburg, Florida, with catcher and former Center Grove player Jordyn Rudd driving in a total of nine runs in five games. Wisconsin’s Abby Herbst contributed a hit and three innings of relief pitching at the same tourney, allowing one hit and striking out four.

Center Grove

St. Leo (Florida) baseball won two of three games against Flagler as senior first baseman Mike Wyman totaled seven hits and three runs scored in the two games he played.

Indiana Wesleyan pitcher Drue Young struck out four batters in 2 2/3 innings as the Wildcats baseball team lost to Lindsey Wilson, 7-6.

Southern Indiana started the softball season at the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout, winning three of six games. Sophomore first baseman Lexi Fair finished 9 of 19 at the plate with two doubles and five runs driven in.

Louisville sophomore Kiyah Yeast lowered her personal-best mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.42 seconds at the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson. She was also part of the 4×400 relay team that ran a time of 3:44.67.

Indiana freshman pole vaulter Taylor Jarosinski cleared a height of 3.67 meters (12 feet, ½ inch) to place fourth as the Hoosiers hosted the Hoosier Hills indoor track and field meet.

Vermont women’s basketball downed Albany, 63-55, as junior guard Emma Utterback scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and made four assists. Utterback poured in a career-high 24 points in a 61-58 win over New Hampshire.

Purdue senior guard Cassidy Hardin finished with 10 points for Purdue women’s basketball in a 54-52 loss at Wisconsin.

Bentley defeated New Haven, 80-61, behind 16 points, six rebounds and three assists from junior guard Ella Thompson. In a 68-62 loss to Assumption, Thompson scored 14 points, grabbed four boards and made two steals.

Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds in Indiana’s 76-61 loss at Michigan State. The junior had 30 points, eight boards and six assists in a 74-69 loss to visiting Wisconsin.

Indiana Wesleyan junior guard Spencer Piercefield scored 29 points to lead the Wildcats in an 87-85 win at Bethel. He had 12 points and four rebounds in a 79-72 victory at Taylor.

The Indiana men’s golf team finished seventh at the Nexus Collegiate in New Providence, Bahamas. Junior Noah Gillard placed 34th overall for IU, while senior Ethan Shepherd tied for 43rd place.

University of Indianapolis wrestling placed second at the Great Lakes Valley Conference meet. Junior Gleason Mappes won his match at 184 pounds in a semifinal victory over Maryville.

Franklin

Butler freshman golfer Damon Dickey tied for 60th overall with a three-round total of 229 at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate in Palm City, Florida.

Franklin College junior Gauge Creech helped the men’s swimming and diving team place second at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference meet in Terre Haute, winning the 1- and 3-meter diving events.

Kentucky freshman pitcher Izzy Harrison worked 1 1/3 innings of relief in a 3-1 win over Liberty at the Northern Lights tournament in Leesburg, Florida. She also pitched in relief in a 6-1 loss to Virginia Tech.

Marian baseball player Brodie Rinehold scored a run in the team’s 13-2 win at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi. The freshman also delivered a two-run homer run in an 11-0 triumph.

Concordia (Wisconsin) senior men’s tennis player Logan Snyder won his doubles match but lost at No. 1 singles in the Falcons’ 5-4 loss to Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

Franklin College runners Eli Cochrane and Drew Hargis placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,000-meter run at the DePauw Invitational.

Marian senior Sam Barnett took seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.83 seconds at the Gerry England Invite at the University of Indianapolis.

Junior forward Bayleigh Torrance had eight points and three rebounds for Franklin College in its 77-69 overtime triumph at Mount St. Joseph.

Whiteland

Lipscomb freshman Bella Jackson took part in the Bulldog Invitational at Samford University, placing 18th in both the long jump and shot put.

St. Francis guard Sidney Crowe scored 16 points and had two rebounds in the Cougars’ 84-53 win against Spring Arbor and had seven points and three rebounds in an 87-71 win over Bethel.

Junior forward Carter Crowe finished with eight points, four boards and three assists to help lead Franklin College men’s hoops past Mount St. Joseph, 71-69.

Indian Creek

Bethel guard Jared DeHart scored 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished three assists in an 87-85 loss to visiting Indiana Wesleyan. He had 29 points and four boards in a 90-86 loss to St. Francis.

Greenwood

Wabash College senior Ethan Pine won the indoor mile in a time of 4:19.16 to outdistance 41 other runners at the Titan Open at Illinois Wesleyan.

Franklin College hurdler Nick Patton finished fourth in the 60-meter event at the DePauw Invitational in a time of 8.96 seconds. He also ran on the Grizzlies’ fourth-place 4×200 relay.

Junior T.J. Bass delivered seven hits, scored three runs and and drove in eight more as Taylor baseball won one of three games at the Southeast Rumble in Georgia.
