Madeline (Thompson) Acher

WESTFIELD, formerly of GREENWOOD

Madeline (Thompson) Acher 84 of Westfield, IN formerly of Greenwood, IN passed away Monday February 14, 2022, at Copper Trace Westfield. She was born May 13, 1937, in Edinburgh, IN to Roy and Laura Ellen (Evans) Thompson. She married Andrew Acher on November 9, 1963, at the Edinburgh United Methodist Church, he survives.

She was a 1955 graduate of Edinburgh High School and graduated from IUPUI in 1993 in general studies.

She had worked at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin for eight years in the business office and then later at Isom Elementary School in Greenwood as the school secretary.

Madeline and Andrew resided in Fairbanks, Alaska for one year while he finished his military obligation and she worked at the Fairbanks Medical Clinic.

She was very active serving as a Center Grove Little League coach, she played four years of club softball following high school and was a member of a weekly bowling league at Hi-Way Lanes in Franklin, enjoyed playing on golf leagues and completed the Indianapolis Mini Marathon 15 times.

Madeline was also an active member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church at Stones Crossing, Greenwood for 46 years where she was a member of the church choir, attending Sunday School Class and helping start a pre-school. She and Andrew celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there and both their daughter Amy and son Mark were married there.

She enjoyed travel with her husband to Fairbanks, Alaska, Nevada, California, Vermont, Connecticut, New York City, Boston, Plymouth, Rhode Island, Cape Cod, N Billerica, Westford, Concord, Newburyport, MA and many visits to Florida as well as touring Europe, England, the Virgin Islands, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

Survivors include her husband Andrew Acher of Westfield, IN, a daughter Amy Lynne Barrett (Keith) of Westfield, IN, a son Mark Andrew Acher (Melissa) of Lafayette, IN, five grandchildren Ashley Schreiber (Justin), Joshua Barrett, Olivia Acher, Anna Acher and Evan Acher and a great grandchild Aria Schreiber.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Laura Ellen (Evans) Thompson, sister’s Thelma Hasch, Wanda Norton, Maxine Willard and Doiline Mattox, brothers Floyd Thompson, Harold Thompson, Walter Thompson and Donald Thompson.

The Reverend Dr. J. Wesley Hertel will conduct a service on Saturday February 19, 2022, at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com madeline-acher. Friends may call Friday February 18, 2022, from 4PM until 7PM at the mortuary. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, IN.
