College notebook: Proctor helps lead Greyhounds to win

Sophomore Dominique Proctor delivered a home run and a single to drive in four runs as the University of Indianapolis softball team opened its spring break with a 10-0 shutout of Dominican (N.Y.) in Winter Haven, Florida. Fellow Greenwood graduate and teammate Lexy Rees, a junior catcher, also homered in the victory.

Greenwood

Taylor junior baseball player T.J. Bass had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in an 8-7 home loss to Huntington. The Trojans then split two games against Huntington with Bass delivering a total of three hits and scoring two runs.

Indian Creek

Middle Tennessee pitcher Dustin Sprong worked two innings of hitless relief, striking out three, in the team’s 10-7 loss at Auburn.

Center Grove

Freshman Drue Young pitched a complete game for Indiana Wesleyan baseball in its 6-1 win over Bethel, permitting eight hits and striking out six.

Morehead State pitcher Grant Herron had an inning of relief in a 14-5 victory over James Madison. He permitted one hit an issued a walk.

Alabama sophomore Bryce Eblin singled in the Crimson Tide’s 9-3 victory over Binghamton. He singled and stole a base in a 3-2 loss at Southern Mississippi.

Sophomore Adam Taylor homered and singled to help Franklin College baseball down Alma, 6-2. Teammate Chris Foote pitched the win for the Grizzlies, striking out four in three innings of hitless relief. Taylor followed with two doubles in a 15-7 triumph against Alma, this time with Jackson Young recording the pitching win to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Abby Herbst contributed a single and double as Wisconsin softball won four of five games at the Dixie State tournament.

Freshman Brandon Heffner tied for 33rd individually with a score of 82-77—159 as the Marian men’s golf team finished fourth at the LTU Spring Break Invitational.

Junior Erica Shepherd was 11 over par with a three-round score of 76-75-73—224 as Duke women’s golf tied for eighth place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

Junior guard Spencer Piercefield helped Indiana Wesleyan advance to the NAIA national championships in Kansas City by dishing out 10 assists in an 80-65 victory over Montreat and contributing 12 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals in a 70-47 defeat of Indiana Tech.

Indiana junior Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 29 points and collected nine rebounds in the Hoosiers’ 66-58 victory over Wyoming in an NCAA tournament play-in game in Dayton, Ohio.

Bentley women’s basketball finished with a 19-9 record after bowing out of the NCAA Division II championships with a 50-47 loss to Jefferson. Bentley junior guard Ella Thompson had eight points and four rebounds.

Purdue senior guard Cassidy Hardin had six points and three assists in an 82-60 win against visiting Southern Illinois in the opening round of the women’s NIT.

Whiteland

Indiana Wesleyan senior Danielle Munn pitched six innings of three-hit ball in the softball team’s 10-2 win over Grand View.

Mount St. Joseph freshman shortstop Macy Cornelius went 3 for 4 at the plate, including a double, to help lead her squad to a 9-1 defeat of Millikan in a game played in Leesburg, Florida. She also had two singles and scored two runs in the team’s 5-0 shutout of Illinois College.

Delanie Gourley pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up the save for Franklin College softball in a 7-6 win at Wilmington (Ohio). Teammate Addison Csikos scored a run for the Grizzlies in an 11-2 home loss to Dennison.

Morehead State baseball player Luke Helton pitched the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, to notch the win in a 7-2 victory over James Madison.

St. Francis lost in the opening round of the NAIA women’s basketball tournament to Dakota Wesleyan, 69-58, with guard Sidney Crowe finishing with five points, four rebounds and a steal.
