I-69 construction to affect Smith Valley Road, State Road 37

Johnson County drivers can expect traffic pattern changes on State Road 144, State Road 37 and Old State Road 37, also known as Waverly Park Road.

The changes are part of ongoing Interstate 69 project in western Johnson County.

On Monday, construction crews shifted and restricted lanes of State Road 144 near Waverly Road. Those changes are expected to be in place until late fall, when the I-69 interchange, along with the adjacent roundabout, are completed, said Natalie Garrett, Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) spokesperson for Johnson and Morgan Counties.

The traffic shift will narrow 10-foot lanes for interchange construction from the White River bridge to the Bluff Creek Parkway access road east of State Road 37. The change may cause delays, as left-turning traffic will block drivers going east on State Road 144 at Huggin Hollow Road and drivers going west on State Road 144 at Waverly Park Road.

The construction has also closed Old State Road 37 and Wellington Drive, north of State Road 144, with Huggin Hollow Road, at the Circle K and BP gas stations, serving as a detour, according to an INDOT news release.

Construction near Smith Valley Road will also affect traffic patterns. The road west of State Road 37 has been rerouted to a temporary stone road and a new roundabout. Drivers can expect some delays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday as workers remove traffic signal poles from the intersection of State Road 37 and Smith Valley Road. Drivers will be met with daytime flaggers and narrow lanes later this week on Smith Valley Road near Mullinix Road for waterline installation, according to the release.
