Warriors top Woodmen

Winning pitcher Debbie Hill struck out 14 hitters and helped herself out with three runs batted in as Whiteland opened its Mid-State Conference slate with an 8-2 victory over Greenwood on Tuesday. Kiley Sullivan knocked in a pair of runs for the Warriors (3-0, 1-0), while Trinity Borders had three of the team’s 12 hits.

Braves pick up road win

Indian Creek jumped in front early and held on for a 3-1 win at Indianapolis Lutheran. Winning pitcher Alyssa Lewis hit a two-run triple in the first inning for the Braves (1-1) and kept the Saints at bay the rest of the way, scattering five hits.

Grizzly Cubs fall to Quakers

Franklin suffered an 11-5 setback against visiting Plainfield. Kiera Lynn hit a two-run homer in defeat for the Grizzly Cubs (1-1, 0-1 Mid-State).

Grizzly Cubs win conference opener

Max Clark homered and struck out nine batters in three innings on the mound as Franklin defeated Plainfield, 7-4, in Mid-State Conference play on Tuesday. Jace Fowler and Drew Doty matched Clark with two RBIs apiece for the Grizzly Cubs (1-2, 1-0).

Woodmen boys, girls take second

Greenwood’s boys and girls teams finished second behind Mt. Vernon Tuesday in a three-way meet that also included Roncalli. The Woodmen girls got event wins from Emma Gardner (shot put and discus), Ellie Irwin (high jump) and Amy Luttrell (pole vault). On the boys side, the Woodmen got first-place finishes from Brayden Gardner (discus) and Dylan Mayhew (shot put).
