Monica (Warsco) Vaught

GREENWOOD, IN

On March 29, 2022, our mom Monica (Warsco) Vaught of Greenwood, IN, was tragically taken from us. To tell the story of her death is also to tell the story of her life.

Monica was a loving mother of 3 children whom she adored till the very end. Our mother had a brilliant mind, she was valedictorian of her graduating class in 1991 from Greenwood Community High School, and salutatorian of Indiana University Bloomington in 1995. She taught English in Taipei, Taiwan and appreciated her Asian background. She was sensitive, with the most empathetic heart we’ve ever known. On the outside, it seemed she had it all. On the inside, she had struggles that she hid well from her family for a long time. We loved her with everything we had, but it wasn’t enough to protect her from this world and from herself.

Our family has worried about her for years, trying again and again to get her the help she so desperately needed. We have watched from the sidelines, helplessly as she attempted to hide her struggles and we have watched with worry as she began to be overcome by them. That worry and helplessness has been replaced by a deep feeling of loss that exists knowing we will never hear our beautiful mother’s voice again.

We live in a cruel world where mental health issues are stigmatized and swept under the rug. This obituary we pray, instills hope in someone, if only one person. Hope that more people will accept help and be open about their demons. It is to tell people that there is nothing to be ashamed of. There are people who love you with every ounce of their being and want nothing more than for you to just be happy. To lose our mother this way is gut wrenching and unfathomable.

Monica is finally at peace. She is free of her suffering at last. We will miss her chicken dances, silly outdated phrases, unannounced tickle fights, late night drive thru runs, cooking, and her endless love she so freely gave to us and her animals.

Monica is survived by her mother Sheni (Wang) Hutchison and step father Robert Hutchison of Greenwood, Indiana. Her father Frederick Warren Warsco and step mother Deanna Warsco of Indianapolis, Indiana; her children, Ava Campbell of Los Angeles, California, Clyde Vaught of Greenwood, Indiana, and Jasmyn Vaught of Greenwood, Indiana; and siblings, Kim (Warsco) Lummis and Jennifer (Warsco) Cathcart. She is preceded in death by her brother David Warsco.

Goodbye Mom, we love you infinity and we will miss you forever. 143 637.

Love,

Ava, Clyde, and Jasi.
