Softball

Crawhorn, Lancers top Eagles

Gracie Crawhorn clubbed three home runs and drove in eight runs to power Edinburgh to an 11-5 victory over Brown County on Saturday. Winning pitcher MacKenzie Bieker struck out 12 for the Lancers (3-4) and helped her own cause with a pair of homers and three RBIs at the plate.

Crawhorn was 10 for 10 in three games last week, totaling six circuit shots and 13 runs batted in.

Grizzly Cubs claim a pair

Franklin rolled to two easy victories, hammering Herron by a 21-4 count and blanking Warren Central, 18-0. Bryleigh Carlisle tossed a no-hitter for the Grizzly Cubs (4-4) in the win over the Warriors.

Royals take two

David Lauck earned his 300th career coaching win as Class 4A No. 1 Roncalli routed Floyd Central, 13-2. The Royals (4-0) followed up with a 12-1 victory over Lakota West (Ohio) later in the day. Both were five-inning wins.

Baseball

Cougars sweep Bulldogs

Greenwood Christian won both ends of its doubleheader with Monrovia, prevailing by scores of 6-5 and 22-18. Eli Ellis hit two solo homers in the opener for GCA (4-3); Isaac Bollhorst hit a grand slam in the nightcap, while Trey Harney added a home run and five RBIs.

Grizzly Cubs split

Franklin took one of two games at the Athenian Invitational on Saturday, taking an 8-6 loss to host Crawfordsville before bouncing back with a 6-4 triumph over Griffith. Max Clark had a home run and four RBIs in the win, while Nolan Netter knocking in a pair of runs in each game for the Grizzly Cubs (6-4).

Boys golf

Host Trojans win tourney

Center Grove’s Red team finished first in the Trojan Classic at Hickory Stick on Saturday, posting a score of 312 to beat Silver Creek by six shots. The Trojans’ White team was fourth (323), Greenwood Christian fifth (331), Center Grove Black seventh (334) and Franklin 12th (350) in the 18-team field.

Woodmen place fourth

Greenwood rode a 79 from Jackson Watkins to a fourth-place team finish at the Danville Invitational. Eli Poe and Jahlen Burton each carded an 85 for the Woodmen, while Conner Chase and Davis Arthur both finished at 86.

Girls tennis

Warriors top Falcons

Whiteland finished off a 4-1 win over Perry Meridian on Saturday. Sara Ullrich and Candace Stephenson were victorious at second and third singles for the Warriors (3-1, 2-0 Mid-State), while Brenna Atchison and Kailyn Sheridan took the point at first doubles and Kinsey Shipp and Ella Proctor did the same in the No. 2 spot.

Trojans get one of two

Center Grove was swept by No. 5 Jasper on Saturday but rebounded with a 4-1 victory over No. 17 Floyd Central. Lauren Dick, Ava Beecher and Emerson Donaldson swept the singles points for the 13th-ranked Trojans against the Hilltoppers, while Peri Small and Madison Herron earned a win at second doubles.

Baseball takes twinbill

Tysen Lipscomb had a two-run walk-off single and Logan Demkovich hit three solo home runs as Franklin College posted 9-8 and 6-4 victories over Manchester at Center Grove on Saturday. Demkovich now has 16 round-trippers on the year, tying Frank Podkul’s single-season school record.

Softball sweeps Beavers

Franklin College kept its recent hot streak going with a doubleheader sweep of Bluffton. The Grizzlies (15-12, 7-3 HCAC) pulled out a 7-4 win in the opener before rolling to a 21-5 triumph in the second game. Genesis Muñoz and Shelby Crockett each had four RBIs in the nightcap, and both homered on the day.

Showalter leads men’s golf

Alan Showalter was the individual medalist with a 71 to lead Franklin College at the Timbergate Dual. Tim Leonard (80) was fourth overall for the Grizzlies; no team scores were kept. Maci French (89) was fourth on the women’s side.

Women’s lax falls in OT

Franklin College suffered a 10-9 overtime defeat at Hanover. Baleigh Riddle and Mia Turnbaugh each had two goals for the Grizzlies (2-7, 1-1 HCLC), while goalkeeper Riley Rice made seven saves.
