Delays, new closures expected on SR 37 this week

State Road 37 drivers can expect changes to their commutes this week in Johnson County and on the southside.

In Johnson County, daytime lane closures will occur near State Road 144 due to bridgework, causing delays at the stop light. The dedicated turn lane from southbound State Road 37 to westbound State Road 144 will close later this week, which means drivers will have to use the right through lane, , according to an Indiana Department of Transportation news release.

Additionally, construction crews will set bridge beams next week for the upcoming State Road 144 bridge over Interstate 69, which will cause nighttime lane closures and 20-minute traffic stoppages on State Road 37, INDOT officials say.

On the southside, State Road 37 drivers can expect traffic shifts across the center median headed northbound near Wicker Road, as well as where the northbound and southbound traffic split near Buck Creek bridge north of Southport Road. The shifts will also signal the permanent closure of the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Belmont Avenue near State Road 37, according to the release.

Drivers can also expect 20-minute stoppages near State Road 37 and Banta Road, where construction crews will be working on temporary traffic signals, INDOT officials say.

At night, drivers can expect single-lane closures on northbound State Road 37 near Southport Road, as construction crews install temporary barriers, and on Interstate 465, where bridgework is taking place at the Mooresville Road Bypass and Madison Avenue, according to the release.
