College notebook: Cornelius keeps raking for Lions

Mount St. Joseph freshman Macy Cornelius was 3 for 4 with a triple, three runs scored and five driven in during a doubleheader sweep of Rose-Hulman. The performance upped Cornelius’ batting average to a team-leading .467.

Whiteland

Danielle Munn came on and pitched four innings of shutout relief, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out three to get the win in Indiana Wesleyan’s 17-8 victory over Marian.

Franklin College’s Delanie Gourley went 3 for 3 with an RBI in a doubleheader nightcap win over Bluffton. Teammate Addison Csikos scored a pair of runs in that twinbill and doubled in a win over Spalding.

Bowling Green’s Reagan Emberton placed third in the shot put at Ball State’s WeFly Challenge with a heave of 12.66 meters (41 feet, 6 1/2 inches). Michaela Adams, competing for the University of Indianapolis, was sixth (11.49 meters/37 feet, 8 1/4 inches).

Luke Helton went five innings to earn the win for Morehead State in a victory over Belmont.

Center Grove

Northwestern catcher Jordyn Rudd was 5 for 9 with three runs scored and an RBI in a three-game softball sweep of Purdue, then added another hit during a doubleheader split with Illinois.

Junior Abby Herbst had a pinch-hit single in Wisconsin’s 3-2 victory over Michigan State.

Southern Indiana first baseman Lexi Fair hit a walk-off homer in an eight-inning win over McKendree and a two-run shot during a doubleheader split against No. 5 UIndy. Hanna Burris had a hit and a run scored for the Greyhounds during that twinbill.

Kaci Finchum was 3 for 5 with a double, a run and three RBIs for Mount St. Joseph in a doubleheader sweep of Rose-Hulman.

Drue Young earned his second career win for Indiana Wesleyan, scattering five hits over 5 2/3 innings and striking out eight in a 12-2 victory over Goshen.

Morehead State’s Grant Herron pitched five shutout innings against Belmont, striking out seven while yielding just two hits and two walks. He did not factor in the decision after the Eagles lost, 4-2.

Alabama second baseman Bryce Eblin had a hit and a run scored during a three-game series at No. 1 Tennessee.

University of Indianapolis long jumper Lucas Roehling placed second at the WeFly Challenge with a leap of 6.20 meters (20 feet, 4 inches).

At the Louisville Invitational, Kiyah Yeast placed third in the 100-meter dash for the host Cardinals with a time of 11.97 seconds. She also anchored the winning 4×100 relay team and ran on the runner-up 4×400 relay.

Duke women’s golfer Erica Shepherd was selected to represent the United States this summer at the Arnold Palmer Cup in Switzerland. This will be Shepherd’s second straight appearance in the Ryder Cup-style event.

Greenwood

University of Indianapolis second baseman Dominique Proctor was 3 for 7 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs in her team’s doubleheader split with Southern Indiana.

UIndy distance runner Brandon Albin posted a 1,500-meter personal best of 4:38.23 during the WeFly Challenge. Emily Bonser was fifth in the women’s shot put at 12.09 meters.

Franklin

Taylor men’s golfer Javan Johnson tied for medalist honors with a 74-73—147 as the Trojans won the Pilot Spring Invitational in South Bend. He then shot a 70, tying for second individually, as Taylor won the Ackerman-Allen Shootout in West Lafayette.

Butler freshman Damon Dickey carded a 73-76—149 at the Wright State Invitational, tying for 13th on the individual leaderboard.
