Baseball

Grizzly Cubs drop league tilt

Mooresville’s Nick Wiley shut down a potent Franklin lineup, tossing a four-hit shutout to lead the Pioneers to a 5-0 triumph in a battle for the Mid-State Conference lead. Nolan Netter had two hits for the Grizzly Cubs (8-5, 5-2).

Warriors fall to Artesians

Whiteland staged a furious seventh-inning rally but couldn’t quite complete the comeback in a 6-4 loss to Martinsville. Drew Helton knocked in a pair of runs for the Warriors (8-5, 4-3 Mid-State), who got two hits each from Maalik Perkins and Kayden Ferguson.

Woodmen hammer Falcons

Greenwood rolled to a 13-1 triumph over Perry Meridian behind three RBIs each from Alex Honeycutt, Cade Kelly and Landen Smith. Kelly struck out nine and yielded just three hits on the hill for the Woodmen (3-5, 1-5 Mid-State).

Royals get shutout win

Tanner Hudspeth pitched a no-hitter, striking out 13, to power Roncalli to a 2-0 win over Covenant Christian. JJ Prendergast supplied the Royals’ offense with a two-run double.

Whiteland remains perfect

A three-run homer from Halle Nett helped Class 4A No. 5 Whiteland pick up a 4-1 home win over Martinsville on Tuesday. Debbie Hill earned the pitching win for the Warriors (12-0, 6-0 Mid-State), striking out nine, while Hill, Emmy Piercy and Trinity Borders each came up with a pair of hits.

Woodmen drop slugfest

Greenwood got three RBIs apiece from Taylor Dick and Courtney Hankenhoff but couldn’t quite keep pace in a 14-12 loss against Perry Meridian. Hankenhoff, Anna Pritchett and Sophie Markowicz each hit a home run for the Woodmen (4-6, 1-5 Mid-State).

Royals rout Heritage

Class 4A No. 1 Roncalli slugged five home runs, including two from Abbey Hofmann, in a 17-2 victory over Heritage Christian. Keagan Rothrock, Ann Marie Meek and Lauren Marsicek each went yard once for the Royals (11-0).

Boys golf

Edinburgh places first

Max Blandford shared medalist honors with a 44, leading Edinburgh to victory in a four-team match with Trinity Lutheran, Beech Grove and Medora. Trevor Moon shot a 48 for the Lancers, followed closely by Devyn Milburn (49) and Mason Calhoun (50).

Grizzly Cubs, Warriors edged

Mooresville narrowly defeated Franklin and Whiteland on Tuesday, posting a 167 to nip the Grizzly Cubs and Warriors by four and nine shots, respectively. Whiteland’s Will Davis was the individual medalist, finishing 4 under par at 32.

Roncalli ties for second

Roncalli finished two shots behind Brownsburg and even with Lebanon in a three-way match. Bayley Schoettle led the Royals with a 40, while Nick Stewart and Elliot Borders each shot 43.

Girls tennis

Royals blank Warriors

Roncalli posted a 5-0 win over Whiteland on Tuesday. Rebecca Zakrawski, Ally Feltz and Lili Wisler claimed the singles points for the 25th-ranked Royals, Elsie Kerr and Katrina Gangstad won at first doubles and Sophia Saran and Marissa Morwick wever victorious in the second spot.

Trojans come up short

Center Grove fell to No. 5 Park Tudor, 4-1. Emerson Donaldson secured the lone point for the Trojans (5-3) at third singles.

Lancers pick up victory

Edinburgh topped Rushville on Monday, 4-1. Bethany Burton and Jessica Walsh won in straight sets at first and second singles for the Lancers, while Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant pulled out a three-set victory at No. 1 doubles and the No. 2 duo of Gracie Myers and Zoe Sida won a pair of 6-0 sets.
