Challenger Knight wins Nineveh Township Trustee primary

Challenger Jonetta Knight has ended Janet Renner’s hopes of reclaiming her seat as Nineveh Township Trustee.

Knight, claiming 53% of the vote compared to Renner’s 47%, will move on to the general election in November. With no Democrat in the running for the trustee seat, Knight is currently unopposed for the general election.

Renner served 12 years in office, but had not been challenged in any of her reelection bids.

If Knight is elected to take her place in November, she wants to make sure people always have the ability to talk to her if they have concerns or questions, Knight told the Daily Journal in March.

Her goals include creating a physical trustee’s office to keep items people may need, such as diapers and food. She also wants to hire assistants to keep the office open as many hours as possible.

“My passion (is) to help people. … The ultimate goal of a trustee for a township is to maybe help people get back on their feet if they’ve had tough times with the pandemic or situations with family,” Knight said. “I want them to feel comfortable in asking for help. I want to be that person they would feel comfortable coming to and welcome them like I would family.”
